Formaldehyde 30% is a highly effective treatment against protazoan parasites and flukes. It is particularly able to treat flukes because of it's ability to penetrate the mucus in the fish gills and reach the parasites that are otherwise difficult to treat.
The best treatment for parasitic activity such as Ichthyopthirius (White Spot), Trichodine, Costia, chilodonella and Epistylis is through a mixture of Malachite Green and Formaldehyde which can be bought under the name F.M.G Mixture. However this is a strong one shot treatment and not suitable for sensitive breeds of fish such as Sturgeon and Orfe. By buying Formaldehdye separately, it can be mixed to the required concentration thereby making a treatment suitable for all types of fish.
In some cases, and for external parasite treatment for flukes such as Gryodactylus and Dactylogyrus, the best control is by formaldehyde alone.
Add 10ml of Malachite green to every 352 gallons (1,600 litres) of pond water and 10ml Formaldehyde to every 150 gallons (681 litres). Alternatively for treatment using Formaldehyde alone, add 10ml Formaldehyde to 150 gallons (681 Litres) of Pond Water.
