Calculating the Size of the Pond Liner you require

1. First ask yourself your ponds dimensions (best to stick to feet or metres)

What is the maximum length? width? depth?

NB. If you have an odd shaped non-rectangular pond, always over estimate. Better to have too much than too little.

2. Substitute your dimensions into the two equations below to get the Liner length and width

Liner length = max length + (2 x max depth) + 1 (for overlap)
Liner width = max width + (2 x max depth) + 1 (for overlap)

The SealEco Greenseal pond liner is a black synthetic rubber sheet made from the EDPM polymer. EPDM is relatively new to the UK market. It is highly resilient and durable material that is easily manipulated into different shapes and sizes. It is hard wearing and offers a longer lifespan than PVC; it is the superior choice for larger installations in particular.

EPDM liners retain their strength and durability despite the impact of the elements: heat and temperature fluctuations, water and movements in the ground for longevity. They require little maintenance after installation and can be purchased as SealEco Greenseal which is 0.75mm in width and Firestone which is 1.00mm in width.

What is the difference between Butyl and EPDM?

Although they don't look dissimilar to the eye, Butyl liners and EDPM liners have a different molecular make-up. Butyl sheets must contain at least 50% Butyl Polymer and most likely will contain some EPDM (Ethylene-propylene Terpolymer) , whereas EPDM rubber liners are made from 100% EPDM polymer. EPDM is used more readily around the world therefore often cheaper, but this doesn’t deter from its high quality. In 60% of tests, EDPM has been found to have a higher specification than Butyl, and in the other 40% they are equal.
